The growing of cell phones in China

In The Acceleration of Tranquility, it shows the picture that people will be highly depended on technology in the future, and I think that is what will happen in China. We can hardly predict what Cell phone industry will be in the future, but we can see a little clue from what we are having right now. In some big city in China, you can see that everyone has a cell phone in hand, and they are either texting or talking on the phone. According to the data, there are over five hundred million people are now using cell phones, it is a huge number and it also inspires a lot of cell phone companies to establish their sopts in China. Also, instead of visiting each other personally, now Chinese people use text messeages to say “Happy Chinese New Year” or “Happy New Year’s Eve”. In Chinese New Year, it shows that over two hundred million people use text messeages to send their belssing to each others. And they also use cell phones to download the Chinese New Year show. You can see people are wacthing Chinese New Year’s show on their cell phone, no matter they are working in their offices or walking down the streets.
Based on digital capital, technology is a huge business, and if we don’t control it well, it will be out of control. We will find ourselves being tracked, analyzed, profiled, and flagged in our daily lives to a degree we can scarcely imagine today. Although China is a communistic country, but it’s too big and has too many people that governement can’t control everything. We should be worried about that some crimainals use cell phones to do something illeagal and even invade other’s people rights. For example, some people use cell phones to speard some pornographic picture or text. And some hackers even send some links that have virus in it. We should always be carefull when we open an eamil or send a messeage. And what cell phone company can do is to enchance the security of customers’ personal informations, work on anti- virus software and develop some new programs so that hackers can’t invade in. Hopefully, technology will not turn into that way, because it suppose to bring convenience and happiness to our live, not disaster.

Cell phone and Internet in China

After cell phones become popular in China, the telecommunication companies start to develop and import the new technology from western countries. Interne was invented in 1987; it was used for military, but gradually became a world wide technique. And how can cell phone be realted to Internet? The demand of both cell phone and Interent increased rapidly, they had become the daily necessities. But the problems were that computers were too heavy to carry around and cell phones could only use for communicate with people; they had their on advatage and dis advantage. Therefore, somepeople strat to think about how we can combine these together, and then they have an idea, how about use cell phone to log into internet? It’s a brilliant idea.
At first, cell phone can only browse a few internets, such as Yahoo and Goolgle. More and more Internet companies find out that there are huge markets in cell phone business, therefore more and more companies cooperate with cell phones. Nowadays, people can go on the Internet everywhere they want.
We all know that China is a communistic country; Chinese governement had blocked some website for people to browse. As the increasing users of cell phones and internet, people in China strat to find some illegal way to get through the firewall that their government had established. It’s a symbolism of freedom. Also, they can browse some popular western websites, such as Facebook, Twitter and Mayspacewith cell phones. For us it might be common but for the people in China, it means a great improvement.

Cell phone revolution in China (From telephone to cell phone)

Telephone was introduced to Taiwan in 1877. Taiwan was the first country in China that had telephone. At the beginning, phones were only for people who lived in main cities such as Taipei and Kaohsiung, and those were used for government to communicate and contact with other cities. At that time, people still use telegram often; since they were not familiar to telephone, they didn’t trust that telephone can submit their voice to people who were far away from them. They thought that talking to a telephone is stupid and awkward. One day, a rich man who lived in Taipei bought the first telephone in the whole city. Everybody wanted to see how telephone looked like; therefore, they went to his house to see how telephone worked. The rich man called his friend who was worked in government. And as his friend picked up, they talked for a while and everybody was amazed!!! From that time on, people were all crazy about telephone, they thought it was some magic tools, and everybody tried to get one. The old telephone looked like this; it had turntable on it and we dailed it by rolling the turntable. Telephone became more and more popular in China.
Almost a hundred years after telephone was developed, the cell phone finally apeared. In 1973, the first cell phone was introduced to the world. It was huge and heavy; also, the connection was not as good as one now. In the beginning, cell phones were used in military in China just like telephones. Because of the political issue, cell phone can not be widely used in China. Government used it to control and to update the last news from military. At that time, China was in a guarded situation, it refused to absorb or exchange any new techonology or informations with other countries, and therefore, it was being regressed. On the other hand, the other government in China was moved to Taiwan. Although they were also in guarded situation, they didn’t refuse the information coming from other countries. Gradually, people found out that cell phone were more convinent than telephone, you could use it any where and any time you want. There was a huge change in China after 1978, Chian opened its door for people to invest and visit. A lot of cell phone companies were established just like the mushrooms after rain. And now, according to the data, almost 75% of Chinese has a cell phone in hand.

The transformation to an industrial society

China used to be an agricultural country; people used fire as their light and used horse or cow as their transportations. Industry and techonolgy were introduced by missionaries near the end of Ching Dynasty. At first, Chinese people were hard to accept high technology, such as train, car and even light bulb. They think high technology was like magic. It was so mistical that they couldn’t dare to try it. During that time, alomost every western contries started their industrial revolution. And estern countries were way behind. Not until Opium War did China start to become industrial society.
Taiwan was one of the first few countries in estern countries which had cell phones. Cell phones were introduced to Taiwan in late 80’s. The old cell phone was huge and heavy; it was not like nowadays cell phone, which is small and thin. At that time, cell phone also represented as wealth, people who had cell phone must be a rich people or a famous people. In the late 80’s, people still used telephone often, because cell phone was expensive and hard to carry. It was bigger than a purse and heavier than a book. It was weight 3 kg. Gradually, cell phone became thiner and thiner, smaller and smaller, and its price was not so expensive anymore. Some cell phones started being introduced into China, but because of the political issue in China, the trend of using cell phone didn’t move quickly. Fortunatelly, the gradually tradings between China and western countries made cell phones become popular. Nowadys, the number of cell phone users in China is 3.3 hundred million and it go far beyond the number of telephone users in China. Isn’t it amazing?
